Both macOS and Windows work. Install, sign-in and live operation were verified on real machines of each. Windows 10/11 (64-bit); it also runs on ARM Windows.

Download and double-click. A dmg on macOS, an installer on Windows. The operating system blocks the very first launch; the download section tells you the two clicks that get past it. If you get stuck, reply to the email and we will help.
It only has to stay plugged in. The screen can sleep, the machine can be locked. Demeter holds the system awake by itself and lets the display sleep normally.
Why it matters: stop-losses and trailing stops are checked every five minutes. US market hours and 24/7 crypto mean the hours you are asleep are exactly the hours it trades. If the machine sleeps, nothing is protecting the position.
A restart is fine. Demeter comes back by itself after a reboot, and if the engine or its storage stops, it brings itself back on its own.
One thing no program can override: closing a laptop lid forces sleep unless an external display is attached. On a laptop, leave the lid open — a desktop that stays plugged in is the better setup.
That warning is expected. The Windows installer has no code-signing certificate yet, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen stops a program it has not seen before. It does not mean a virus.
Click More info, then Run anyway. The installer never asks for administrator rights. On a Mac the app has no Apple developer signature yet either, so macOS blocks the first launch; use Open Anyway in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Step by step: download and install Demeter.
Yes. Alpaca has a separate Paper environment with its own keys, and Demeter's paper mode runs against Alpaca's paper endpoint. Switch to Live once you have watched it for a while. See the Alpaca API key setup guide.
The app has no Apple developer signature yet, so macOS blocks the very first launch. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, press Open Anyway next to "Demeter was blocked" and confirm. After that a double-click opens it. If you are comfortable with Terminal, xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Demeter.app does the same.
macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon (M1 and later) or Intel, and Windows 10/11 on x64 or ARM64 (a native ARM64 build is available). The computer has to stay plugged in; the screen may sleep.
After the first launch the app notifies you of new versions and updates itself on macOS and Windows.

Only your email, phone number and password (hashed). They are deleted a year after the subscription ends. Broker accounts, balances and API keys are never sent to us; they stay on your computer.
Download Demeter for macOS or Windows, sign in, then connect Alpaca or Kraken with an API key issued without withdrawal permission. Alpaca and Kraken are wired in but not yet verified with a real order.
You do not have to. Waiting until there is a record is the safer choice.
Instead, the 14-day free trial lets you use the call screens and buy orders yourself first. It needs no card, and it ends by itself after 14 days. Nothing is charged and nothing converts. We are not going to invent another reason for you.
Release it in the settings on the old machine, then register it on the new one. If a failure or a wipe stops you releasing it, tell us and we will release it from our side.
Only the call screens and new buy orders stop. Indicator, data and portfolio screens, sell orders and loss limits keep running, and your holdings and records stay where they are.
An ended subscription never force-sells anything. No one's position should be liquidated over a billing date. To use the call screens again, subscribe again.

Yes. PayPal emails a receipt for the payment. In Korea we can issue a tax invoice (세금계산서): reply to the payment email with your business registration certificate.

There are two ways. Card-free trial: sign up on this site, sign in, then press "Start 14-day free trial" on your account page. It starts at once, and you can also start it from the app. We take no card or payment details. After 14 days it simply ends, and nothing is charged or converted. One trial per account and per computer.
Subscribe with PayPal: if you have not used the trial yet, the first 14 days are free. We email a reminder 3 days before the first charge, and cancelling before day 15 costs $0. If you already used the trial, you are charged right away.
Yes. Within 7 days of any payment, including a renewal, in full. After 7 days, we refund the unused months, counting each used month as $139, and never below zero.
If the program fails to work because of us, we refund the remaining period whenever that happens. Refunds go back through PayPal. The free trial costs nothing, so there is nothing to refund. Full details: refund policy.
One computer, any number of accounts. To move to a new computer, release it in Settings on the old one and sign in on the new one. If the old one broke or was wiped, tell us and we will release it.

Keys are held encrypted on that machine, and the key that unlocks them lives in the vault your operating system manages. Copy the file elsewhere and it will not open.
We cannot see them either. There is no path by which a key reaches our servers. Issue your Kraken key without withdrawal permission; Alpaca trading keys cannot withdraw money at all.

Decisions and orders are made on your own computer, and API keys are never sent. Two things do talk to our servers: subscription checks, and the fill-outcome sharing and shared-model download below (both switchable in Settings).
The one thing the program sends, on by default, is the outcome of filled live orders under a pseudonym, to improve fill calibration for everyone. You can turn it off in Settings at any time. Details are in the terms below.

Start with Paper. Each environment has its own keys; Demeter's paper mode runs against Alpaca's paper endpoint. When you switch to Live, generate Live keys and choose Live in Demeter to match.
The secret is shown only once. Press Generate New Key again and paste the new pair into Demeter; regenerating invalidates the old pair.
Encrypted on your own computer, with the unlocking key in the operating system keychain. They are never sent to us.
API trading needs an account verified to at least the Intermediate level, so that you can deposit USD and trade spot.
Only Query Funds, Query Open/Closed Orders & Trades, Create & Modify Orders and Cancel/Close Orders. Leave Withdraw Funds and every funding permission off; Demeter never needs them. Restricting the key to your IP is optional.
Not with a key issued as above. Without withdrawal permission the key can only query balances and place or cancel orders.
If you set an expiry, note the date. Demeter tells you when a key stops working; create a new key and paste it in Settings › Trading channels · API keys.
